Choose your university like it’s your future home.

Hiring a consultant can feel easy, but your university is basically your home for the next few years. If it doesn’t fit your vibe, budget, or goals, it can affect your whole experience.

University Explorer is not a consultancy firm and we don’t apply on your behalf. The app gives you a dashboard to research universities using search by country, degree filters, top universities, and official university links.

5 Reasons to Study in Canada

Explore the biggest reasons international students choose Canada — and how University Explorer helps you research smarter.

Canadian university academics
Reason 01

Globally respected academics

Choosing Canada for study means getting access to a globally respected education system. Canada’s well-funded public universities create a high-quality learning environment, and graduates are considered skilled and in demand by employers across many industries.

How University Explorer helps: Use the Top 50 Universities feature to see leading institutions globally, or use Filtered Search to find specific degree programs and go directly to the official university page.

Reason 02

Big opportunities in smaller provinces

Many students focus only on Toronto or Vancouver, but major hubs can be expensive. Canada has diverse provinces, and smaller communities in places like Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Atlantic provinces can offer strong education with more manageable living costs.

How University Explorer helps: Use the Cost of Living feature to select a Canadian city and estimate expenses. The Fees or No Fees filter helps you reach official tuition pages for accurate budgeting.
Students gaining work experience while studying
Reason 03

Work while studying and after graduation

For many international students, real-world work experience matters as much as classroom learning. Canada offers work opportunities during studies, and many programs include co-op options where you can gain paid experience in your field.

After graduation, eligible students can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit, depending on program length and eligibility.

High quality of life in Canada
Reason 04

Enjoy a high quality of life

Your university experience is not just about exams and part-time jobs. Canada is known for safe cities, solid public systems, beautiful nature, and a calmer lifestyle. The winters can be freezing, but the country is built for it — and the mountains, lakes, and peaceful cities make the experience memorable.

Welcoming student community in Canada
Reason 05

A welcoming multicultural community

Canada is built on immigration and multicultural communities. No matter which province you choose, you can find familiar food, cultural groups, festivals, and people who understand the international student journey.

Canadian universities also have student support departments to help with cultural transition, making it easier to settle in.

Getting That Canadian Study Permit

After you find the right university, apply officially, and receive acceptance, the next step is your Canadian study permit process.

Since you’ll be studying in English or French, universities need proof that you can handle academic communication. Common English tests include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic, and sometimes Duolingo English Test. Always check the exact official university requirement before booking a test.
You can apply for a study permit only after being accepted by a Designated Learning Institution, which is a college or university approved by the Canadian government to host international students.
You’ll usually need a valid passport, official acceptance letter, proof of funds, and supporting documents. Your cost of living research becomes important here because you need to show that you can support yourself.
Depending on your degree level and province, you may need a Provincial Attestation Letter, usually called a PAL. Your university will guide you on how to receive it.
You submit your study permit application online through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, pay the processing fee, and may need to provide biometrics such as fingerprints and a photo at a visa application center.
