Why Study in the US?
From flexible academics to career opportunities and campus culture, here are the key reasons students choose the USA.
1Academics
Flexible, World-Class Education
The US higher education system is known for being flexible. You do not always have to lock in your major on the first day; you can explore subjects, figure out what you like, and then finally choose.
Use “Top 50 Universities” or Filtered Search to find specific degrees and go directly to the official program page.
2Opportunity
Big Things in Small Packages
The US has 50 unique states, and some of the best opportunities are in smaller and quieter college towns where costs can be more manageable.
Our Cost of Living feature lets you pick a city and see what expenses you may need to handle.
3Experience
Working While You Study
For many international students, studying is only the first step. The next step is getting real-world experience through opportunities like CPT and OPT.
CPT and OPT allow students to work in their field during or after their degree. STEM graduates may extend that work period.
4Culture
The Real American Vibe
The cultural experience in the US is huge. You meet people from different countries, join clubs, and build a network that can last a lifetime.
5Excellence
Learn From the Best
In many US universities, professors are the same people writing textbooks or doing groundbreaking research. That access can shape your future.
Proof of English Proficiency
Universities need to know that you can handle studying in English. That usually means taking TOEFL, IELTS, or sometimes the Duolingo English Test.
TOEFL / IELTS
Traditional English language tests accepted by many universities across the United States.
Duolingo English Test
A growing number of universities accept this online option because it is easier to take remotely.
Getting That American Student Visa: The F-1
After you find the right university and get accepted, the next major step is your visa. Most international students apply for the F-1 Visa.
Once the university accepts you, they will send a Form I-20. This document officially puts you into their student system.
The US government tracks international students through SEVIS. You have to pay the fee and keep the receipt safe.
This is the online visa application form. You upload your photo and pay the visa application fee.
Go to the US Embassy or Consulate, be honest, show financial proof, and explain your study plans clearly.
